Patient-centred approaches to long COVID – Join our upcoming webinar
In the WHO European Region, it is estimated that at least 17 million individuals may have experienced long COVID in 2020 and 2021. Long COVID is characterised by the persistence of COVID-19 symptoms beyond 3 months and is causing both personal suffering and significant burden on health systems and the economy. This webinar aims to shed light on patient-centred approaches for addressing long COVID in the EU.
A range of cardiopulmonary symptoms and cardiovascular abnormalities have been identified in long COVID patients. However, these vary from patients to patients and are not always predictable, which highlights the need for early diagnosis and person-centred approaches and care models. To help identify COVID-19 patients at risk of developing cardiovascular complications, the EU Horizon Europe work programme 2021-2022 has provided funding to our project, COVIRNA, to develop a diagnostic test to improve individualised surveillance, care and follow-up of COVID-19 patients.
Our next webinar ‘Patient-centred approaches to long COVID‘ will present the burden of long COVID for patients and health systems in Europe, discuss how to make long COVID care more patient-centric, and highlight how innovative solutions such as the COVIRNA toolkit can be integrated into existing care pathways.
The webinar will take place on Thursday, 2 March 2023 at 11.00 CET.
We will be joined by Dr Tomas Zapata, Programme Manager, Division of Country Health Policies at WHO EURO, who will deliver the opening keynote, and esteemed panelists including Prof Nisreen Alwan, Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom; Dr Yvan Devaux, Head of the Cardiovascular Research Unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Health; and COVIRNA Project Coordinator, Luxembourg; Ms Ann Li, Chair of the Long COVID Association, Belgium; Prof Thomas Luscher, President Elect of the European Society of Cardiology. The webinar will be facilitated by Mr George Valiotis, Executive Director at the European Health Management Association (EHMA).
